For the main study, I chose an oblique view of Belfast City Hall, using a Sailor Ringless fountain pen with Cobalt Turquoise and liquid charcoal. I enjoyed capturing the building’s imposing scale, its domes and towers, while keeping the line work loose and allowing the washes to suggest the stonework and shadows. For the lesser detail, I focused on the entrance, with its columns, curved roof and dome. This gave me an opportunity to explore the architectural details more closely, using broken lines and grey washes to suggest depth and texture without trying to describe everything.
